The points I made (or wanted to make) on BBC 5 Live today: „Businesses need to focus on getting ready, not be distracted by political infighting“:
Trade changes are inevitable, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing EU-UK negotiations.
Don’t get distracted by political wrangling and infighting, for businesses and citizens: Eyes on the ball.
Leaving the EU’s Single Market and Customs Union puts an end to the free movement of persons, goods and services with the EU as of 31 December 2020
Trading in goods? Focus on the following:
Map out your trade flows
Thinks about importer and exporter obligations
Think about who will absorb the extra customs duty?
Who will make customs declarations?
How will the trade terms change?
Will your supply keep supplying you?
Will your current customers still buy from you?
Rules of Origin?
VAT and excise?
Certificates, marking, permits and labelling
Don’t forget Northern Ireland
Don’t fall for the argument: “They need us more than we need them”
Please don’t adopt this attitude: “It’s not my problem” – It very much is!
