This course is ideal for customs and global trade professionals that need to become competent in Prohibitions, and Restrictions (incl. Export Controls & Sanctions). This means being able to quickly identify and manage prohibited and restricted goods in every import and export business operation. One of the most crucial prohibitions and restrictions for goods leaving jurisdictions is export controls. This course, therefore, dedicates a significant portion of the course to export control concepts, rules and regulations and sanctions laws.

This course covers

a. International, EU and national provisions relating to prohibitions and restrictions (incl. export controls & sanctions)

b. Follow-up measures and procedures in case of irregularities

c. Examples of prohibitions and restrictions

- How to read and interpret sanctions (for example Sanctions against Russia or Iran)

- The different sanctions types, their targets, and exceptions 

- How to demonstrate compliance 

- How violations happen and how to prevent them

- What a robust sanctions compliance program looks like

- How to conduct sanctions due diligence

- What sanctions screening and how it is applied

- How to investigate and report sanctions breaches

Expected Outcome and Results

Upon completion of this course, you will have developed a general awareness and basic knowledge of:

- The national, EU and international standards regarding the main types of prohibited and restricted goods;

- The concepts, laws and licence applications for export controls and sanctions 

- How to identify possible export control and sanctions restrictions 

- Setting up an export control and sanctions compliance programme

- The procedures and  activities to identify prohibited and restricted goods (including licences and quota);

-  The procedures and measures that follow upon the identification of prohibited and restricted goods (including all communications to the relevant authorities).

Quiz

Participants are invited to complete a Quiz after the training. If they pass with a rate of 80%, they will receive a Certificate of Completion in "Prohibitions and Restrictions (incl. Export Controls & Sanctions)" - Level 1 - Awareness. This ascertains that you have received formal training and have met the above mentioned outcomes and results.

Possibility to upgrade to Level 2 - Trained 

Students of the Diploma of Customs Competencies have the possibility to achieve a Level 2 - Trained qualification with the completion of additional tasks/case studies and exercises. This will allow the student to demonstrate that they are able to handle standard situations and related tasks in the field of Prohibitions, and Restrictions (incl. Export Controls & Sanctions) independently. Obtaining a   Certificate of Completion in "Prohibitions and Restrictions (incl. Export Controls & Sanctions)" - Level 2 - Trained successfully implies that this person has a good working knowledge of the

following concepts and systems and is able to apply and use this knowledge in their daily activities. An additional fee is payable and more time needs to be invested. Please indicate, if you like to progress to Level 2 and we will provide additional information.
