Curriculum

This course is unique. It does not exist elsewhere in the market.

Based on the EU Customs Competency Framework, the course establishes, explains, and educates students on the common values all import and export professionals should follow. Businesses rely on employees displaying these values on day-to-day to improve customs operations and organizational performance, After completing this course, students will be able to identify and articulate the important vision and values that people in a Customs role should have, as well as how to demonstrate these ideas and apply basic customs concepts to their job. They also learn to relate these essential principles to potential prospective candidates throughout the recruiting process.

After a basic introduction of all the key seven values in the customs profession, we will deep dive into each of them.

CV1 Strong Ethics and High Integrity

We will start the course by showcasing, using examples how you can exhibit integrity and earn trust through ethical behaviour and uncompromising professionalism in everything you do and say, thereby earning and maintaining the trust and respect of others in your company. This also extends to their customers, the employees within the Customs administrations and all other relevant Customs partners. We will zoom in on ways that ensure high levels of transparency at all times and explore ways you can make sure that trade is conducted in an honest and non-fraudulent manner.

CV2 Operational Excellence

Customs professionals are committed to demonstrating excellence in all their work; operations, and interactions with colleagues; the customs administrations, and all other relevant customs partners. We will study how you can commit to exercising judgment, professionalism, rigour, self-discipline, perseverance and team spirit.  We will explore how you can manage to remain calm and attentive under all circumstances and demonstrate decisiveness, technical credibility and professional behaviour at all times.

CV3 Cooperation with Customs Administration

Customs Professionals should ensure smooth trade flows by improving communication and cooperation between businesses and customs administrations. We will understand how you can cooperate effectively with customs administration and consider the importance of actively listening to, cooperating with and proactively communicating your expectations and potential issues to the customs employees of the administration.

CV4 Customs Compliance

A significant core value is monitoring and controlling a company's compliance with customs legislation and regulations. We will learn what customs compliance is, how to communicate this in your business, and how to set up a department culture of compliance so that Customs Compliance is second nature to you when performing your tasks.

CV5 Continual Learning & Professional Development

In a rapidly changing world, customs professionals working in the private sector commit to continual learning to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of customs operations. We will discover what it means for customs professionals to be personally committed to continuously developing their capabilities and be open to lifelong learning. We will also discuss how to receive and give professional feedback and methodologies to deploy personal strengths further.

CV6 Harmonised Attitude & Approach

Customs professionals within trade organisations and their customs partners, including customs administrations, share a similar attitude, approach and interpretation regarding customs legislation and procedures. We learn what it means to be "on the same page" with customs authorities whilst respecting company requirements.

CV7 Safety and Security Focus

Safety and Security have become significant factors in all customs-related Trade processes.  Using practical examples and scenarios, we will earn how to develop an attentive safety and security mindset.
